Chinese Floral Button (Pan Hua Kou) is the most artistic form among Chinese buttons. Popular in Shanghai during the Republic of China era (1920-1950), mostly used in Cheongsam (Qipao) for decorative purpose.

從前
Old Time

In 1920s–50s Shanghai, the cheongsam was a woman’s everyday attire. For those with abundant resources, besides paying attention to fabrics and patterns, a pair of exquisite floral buttons at the collar was a symbol of status, taste, and fashion.

These tiny fabric knots were crafted into endlessly varied
designs, showcasing the sophistication of the craft at the time and reflecting a keen awareness of aesthetics—especially attention to detail. The patience and focus that nurtured such beauty is a rare quality, increasingly overlooked, and even lost, in today’s fast-paced life.

製作
Making of

Starting from simple strips of fabric, the material is twisted, wrapped, and stitched layer by layer, eventually forming a three-dimensional button. Each one is a miniature work of art, where patience and precision bring
elaborate motifs to life.
