The first time I met the word "Oje" was in a German class. Still remember how my classmates excitedly shouted it out loud "Oh Yeah!" But after the teacher's explanation, everyone was speechless. Although "Oje" and "Oh Yeah" are both exclamations with similar pronunciations, their meanings are completely opposite. In German, "Oje" is often used to express shock or disappointment, originating from the Latin phrase "O Jesu" (Oh Jesus). Since then, I've found myself experiencing a kind of "emotional damage" every time saying it. For example, when someone informs me of a loved one's passing, while saying "Oje," what comes to mind is "Oh Yeah."
To emphasis this inconsistency, I used fabric scraps in contrasting colors. The outline might appear monotonous from the front, but if viewing from different angles, it reveals intricate hand-stitched details, showcasing the unique beauty of Chinese button art.
